Extraction Services Serving Anchorage, AK

The doctors at our practice may determine that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Whenever we perform extractions, we do so with your best interests in mind, and we'll ensure you feel completely at ease during the process. We'll also offer tooth replacement options to allow you chew and function normally.

How To Prepare For Your Tooth Extraction

1. Discuss Your Medications With Your Dentist

Some medications can cause complications with anesthesia or may affect bleeding and wound healing during and after your surgery. For this reason, you should discuss the medications you’re taking with your dentist at your consultation. They may ask you to stop or change some medicines before the tooth extraction to protect your health.

2. Adjust Your Morning Routine

The day of your procedure, don’t eat or drink. An empty stomach is necessary if you’re going under anesthesia. Wear comfortable clothing, and make sure your shirt has long or loose sleeves so an IV can be administered easily. Don't use tobacco on the day of your appointment because nicotine can cause dry mouth and alter your circulation, both of which can interfere with dental surgery and healing.

3. Arrange to Have Someone Accompany You

After a tooth extraction or any other dental procedure using an anesthetic, you will not be able to drive, and you may need someone to stay with you while the medication wears off. Talk to a friend or family member and ask them to come with you to your appointment. Besides making sure you get home safely, they can provide support and encouragement if you’re nervous.
